City Council Member Mike Naggar is pleased to announce that The City of Temecula will be hosting its first Autism Task Force Meeting on August 19, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Temecula City Council Chambers.
The Task Force includes Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley and
Mayors or City Council members from the cities of Canyon Lake, Hemet, Lake
Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Perris, Temecula and Wildomar. According to Council Member Naggar, “this
Task Force is a truly groundbreaking approach which brings local leaders
together to learn from experts about this growing special needs population and
to assist communities in addressing their employment, housing and service
needs. I am not aware of a region
that has joined together like Southwest California has to start discussing what
can be done on a global basis for people on the Autism spectrum”.
The Task Force will be provided clinical information from subject matter
experts in the field including Dr. Paul Coyne, an Autism Behavioral Specialist,
and Dr. Robert Sears who is a nationally recognized Pediatrician specializing
in Autism.
According to a recent study in the American Academy of Pediatrics
journal Pediatrics, autism is now
diagnosed in 1 out of every 91 children and 1 in every 58 boys under the age of
8 has some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The meeting is open to the public.
