My personal experience with doing the diet resulted in a child more connected with the world around him and more focused and available to the other therapies presented to him. Just in the case of casein, we took it out of his diet for 2 months then gave him milk on a Saturday and he was then loopy and out of it and the "opiate " effect was very obvious. In the past infractions would result in a peak of behaviorial issues for days or weeks. Now that he's been on the diet more long term, his gut is healed and constipation was the complication we had to deal with after the last infraction. Please don't discourage parents from trying the diet. No, it doesn't work for all children but I'm so thankful that for my son I gave it a shot. It was one of many key components that have driven his incredible recovery. Through the diet and other biomedical interventions I'm able to provide his ABA, speech and OT therapists a child who functions better and feels better. No study can take away the improvement it offered us. The improvement was observed by both people who knew we were doing the diet AND several who had no idea what we had done.
